Now, with the media hype about bitcoin residing a little over the last two weeks it is time to get into the reflective mode. Today Leika Consult releases the first part of a paper on some of the intricacies of crypto-currencies, with bitcoin its most prominent example. This first part of the paper focuses on the basics: what is digital money? how does digital money fit into the evolution of currencies? What is “trust” about in a interconnected world? What is the role of money?
This paper is a rewrite of several blog posts on crypto-currency and related topics published here at Red Planet Dust between 1st March and 20th April 2013.
Part 2 will be addressing: bitcoin specifics, the future of payments and the social/political implications of crypto-currencies. Like with the topics covered in Part 1 I will post on Red Planet Dust first and will combine later.
